In partnership with the University of San Diego's Institute for Nonprofit Education and Research, the Professional and Continuing Education Nonprofit Management Certificate program has been designed to build professional and practical skills needed to support your organization's sustainability and growth. Course Format

Courses are delivered in an Online Fixed-Date or Classroom format. Our online courses offer the same high-quality content and expert instruction as the courses held on-ground at the University of San Diego. Instructors facilitate courses through engaging multimedia presentations and provide prompt feedback to questions within a 24-48 hour time frame. Online learning allows students to interact with classmates worldwide and replicate in-classroom interactions through weekly discussion forums, chats and email correspondence. 


USD faculty and experienced practitioners in the nonprofit sector provide a stimulating and engaging learning environment. Your instructors in this certificate program are: Highly-regarded faculty from USD’s Institute of Nonprofit Education and Research Renowned practitioner faculty who are leaders in the health care, arts administration, human services, finance, organizational development and community organizing fields.


Enroll in individual courses of your choice and start with any course in any semester. Each class can be completed in four weeks. When you have completed the Nonprofit Certificate Program, you have the option to continue your studies for Master of Arts in Nonprofit Leadership and Management through the Institute for Nonprofit Education and Research in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences.

Certificate Requirements

Complete the requirements below to earn a certificate in Nonprofit Management. The certificate can be completed in as little as eight months. Read more about Certificate Benefits and Policy.

  • Complete 8 courses

  • Complete all coursework with a final GPA of 2.5 (out of 4) or higher.

Become a Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) in conjunction with USD's Nonprofit Certificate Program

Students completing the USD Nonprofit certificate program are eligible to obtain a national credential from the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA) with this program. Students completing the requirements will become Certified Nonprofit Professionals (CNPs). 


  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Completion of the USD Nonprofit Certificate Program
  • Registration in the NLA program 
  • 300 Hours of internship or verifiable work and/or volunteer experience at a nonprofit agency
  • Attendance at one NLA Management Institute or approved alternative conference
