Be an Anti-Bullying Champion with USD’s Bullying Prevention certificate

Does bullying affect students in your school? What if you could be a stronger force for good in combating one of the most pervasive and destructive issues facing students, parents, teachers and schools today?

Well, you absolutely can — and here’s how. Our Bullying Prevention Certificate program, offered 100% online through the University of San Diego, is a research-based program of study that incorporates real-world scenarios and current events to equip you with the knowledge, skills and tools you need to become an effective anti-bullying advocate in your school community.

“The USD prevention certificate program for bullying is really fantastic because it’s not about a packaged program, it’s not a one-size-fits-all program,” says Elloise Bennett, a longtime instructor. “It’s one where you can really learn from other educators in your class as well as experts about what works in schools, what meets your school’s needs.”

Certificate Requirements

To earn the USD professional development certificate in bullying prevention, students are required to successfully complete four individual courses, which can be accomplished in as few as two semesters. See course titles and tuition fees in the chart below.

Enroll in individual courses of your choice or start the certificate program with any course in any semester to earn graduate level extension credits. Each course is 6 weeks. We recommend that you start with “Bullying: An Introduction” and then complete the remaining courses.

Scholarships for Educators

A scholarship for this certificate and a selective group of other certificates is available. This scholarship was created in honor of an employee and lifelong learner here at the University of San Diego’s Professional and Continuing Education, Marcia Sue Rathfon.

On her behalf, we are offering scholarships to those individuals seeking to continue their education in the areas of P-12 education and business while encouraging the concept that learning never stops.

Online Fixed-Date

Online Fixed-Date: Online fixed-date courses offer a convenient, yet rigorous style of learning that enables you to collaborate with your instructor and other students in a shared, online learning environment. These courses have fixed start and finish dates, but as an online student you will have 24/7 online access to your classroom assignments, syllabus and course resources. Our online fixed-date courses allow you to work on your assignments anytime, although you are required to complete the assignments by specific dates.

How is the learning structured? In an online fixed-date course, you and your classmates will proceed through the curriculum together, collaborating in a shared learning experience. Each online fixed-date course is asynchronous, meaning that you can work on your assignments anytime, although required to complete the assignments by specific dates. The course is designed with learning modules where all of the content is grouped into weekly assignments. Each module covers one or more topics. Within each of the learning modules, you can expect the following components:

  • Module introduction that outlines what you can expect to learn in the module.
  • Required readings (textbook, articles, journals, etc.) and presentations (audio and/or video).
  • Assignments with due dates (which may include: written assignments, journal entries, research, blogs, etc.) based on the readings and presentations.
  • Discussion forum where you answer prompts from the instructor and interact with your classmates.
  • Module conclusion to review the topics and what you should have learned.
  • Typically, there is a final project, paper, or exam due in the last module that culminates all of the topics covered in each of the learning modules. You’ll find that the design of the learning modules has a rhythm to help you manage your time in the course.

The course was so inspiring that I want to implement a Bullying Prevention Program at my school using many of the strategies presented in the modules. I recommend this course highly for those who want to contribute to making our world a kinder place

I took the Bullying Prevention course series. Great experience, I could take classes on my own time. Really helpful material that I was able to implement in my current employment as a school counselor. Would highly recommend any courses through the University of San Diego!
