Course Description

Promote Student-Centered Learning to Increase Critical Thinking Skills

Using Inquiry, Discussion, and Experience to Develop Critical Thinkers and Inspire Lifelong Learners promotes the real-world skills and lifelong learning all educators hope to foster by eliciting certain high-level responses among students:  careful observation, cooperation, clear thinking and planning, persistence, resourcefulness and adaptability.  Such responses are not demanded by the traditional classroom environment per se, but result from encouraging students to bring their insight and discoveries to the material, as well as interact with each other and the world beyond the classroom.

The course provides methods and examples to improve existing units and create new ones to satisfy any course’s objectives by including a variety of strategies, such as student-led discussion, self-evaluation and reflection on their own learning, ability and growth, as well as student choice to follow their inspiration.

This course was developed to enable teachers to see and experience the effectiveness of teaching styles which create authentic and meaningful experiences while adhering to state and national standards.
