Course Description

Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only

In this two-hour graduate credit course, participants will delve into the latest reading research and models aligned with popular assessments to support Tier 1, 2, and 3 interventions. Through an exploration of evidence-based practices, educators will gain insights into the critical components necessary for effective reading instruction and intervention. Participants will also engage with strategies for implementing instruction within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework, enabling them to use data-driven assessments to guide differentiated instruction effectively. The course provides practical guidance on designing, planning, implementing, and reflecting on instructional methods using curated online materials, guides, and resource lists to enhance literacy outcomes.

What You Will Learn

  • Ask questions and share ideas with at least two grade-alike colleagues during this course
  • Identify a teacher you can model a lesson for, using tools learned during our discussions and reading
  • Participate in collaborative planning before delivering instruction; for example, identify the item to be collected for evidence of student learning (e.g., exit ticket, assessment, writing sample from a prompt) and agree on 2-3 criteria for guiding feedback and annotations
  • Deliver instruction and collect evidence of student learning
  • Submit the annotated student artifacts and the End-of-Unit Reflection to your facilitator
