I love the continuing education classes at USD because unlike classes I’ve taken at other universities, I feel like the material is really applicable and I’m actually learning something. The courses push my learning without being too challenging/time consuming to complete while working full time. The professors also really seem interested in your growth rather than just checking off that you completed the requirements.
As an adult and an educator, if I would have had the skills this class has taught, I would have been a much stronger reader. I am so grateful for this class to be able to help my students be successful readers and become confident in their ability.
“The Instructors’ engagement with and support of students were exceptional. I was not expecting the strong sense of community that we built (over Zoom!) during the program, and appreciate the network of support and new colleagues and practitioners that I now have. It was a great foundational course both in terms of philosophy/values and also practice. I hope very much that there will be a second, advanced series that might be offered as a continuation of the deep-dive into RJ and the skill building. Thank you for an amazing year, and for the professional and personal growth you have given me.”
Our instructor was very knowledgeable and made me feel like they were sincerely interested in seeing everyone in the class succeed. They offered great feedback and constructive criticism in a very non-confrontational way.
This class was so beneficial for me. I really enjoyed learning about scavenger hunts and using them in my classroom. What an engaging way to teach, review or introduce a topic. This allowed for more retention and more excitement in learning. It opened my eyes to making sure that even in the older grades, we as teachers, are incorporating play in some way. I also loved being able to create scavenger hunts that are related to ELA standards.
I really enjoyed taking this self-paced course. It worked well with my busy schedule. The instructor always gave prompt feedback and grades. I also enjoyed the course content, it was so relevant to the classroom. I will be recommending it to my colleagues.
This was a well thought out and very informative class. The information was relevant, and the instructor was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain the information clearly. I was impressed with the instructors ability to take an in person class and adjust it to online learning and still keep us engaged and excited about attending.
Data literacy is an increasingly important and valuable skill set. Enrolling in this program allowed me to develop a robust understanding of data analysis concepts and tools in a way that I was able to apply new skills professionally as I was learning them. I notice I am better prepared to validate information presented to me, more capable of finding and presenting insights from data and more confident in tools like Excel and Tableau.
Very courteous, professional, and customer service oriented staff and instructors.
I found the Photography course an enormous help and a great learning tool. Even though I have been taking photos for years I had never challenged myself to get out of point and shoot mode. This course was extremely well laid out and I found the instructions easy to follow. I actually understood the concepts and aspects of a camera and its workings to create much better images. The tasks and practical assignments were excellent which made me practice techniques until I was comfortable with using them and could achieve the shot I wanted. I would highly recommend this course to anyone. The professor was very helpful, and the modules and assignments were well planned. I loved this course!! Looking forward to part 2.
I chose the class to get salary points and increase my pay. Everything I learned in class was very applicable to my current teaching and I walked away a better educator. The classes are always filled with people, so that shows how much it is in demand!
I’ve been using your online summer curriculum program for the past three years and it has been the best. I love that I have been able to work during the summer and create meaningful curriculum that I’m using throughout the year. I have shared my work with my coworkers and they have been using the resources I’ve created. I have recommended this program to numerous teachers because it allows us to earn units while we create resources we need. The instructors have provided me with helpful insight in restructuring lessons or thinking about my objectives. Thank you for offering these courses at an affordable cost.
I really enjoy and recommend USD to my fellow teachers. I have learned a lot from your instructors. I believe your classes in with technology and flipped classroom prepared more than anything the district or any publisher for virtual learning during the pandemic.
Very much enjoyed the format of this class.
I appreciated that the video content featured law enforcement professionals who are currently serving or have recently served in the field. Law enforcement is rapidly evolving, and hearing firsthand insights and experiences from front-line leaders was extremely valuable. I also found the articles accompanying each module to be exceptionally informative and in-depth. Several of them were so relevant and well-written that I have already shared them with members of my shift and command staff for further reading. Overall, this was a fantastic course that provided practical, current, and actionable information. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the law enforcement profession.
Overall San Diego’s online classes are one of the best ways I have found to get post-credential units. They are run smoothly through an easy-to-use online format, and the instructors are responsive and helpful when needed. The only room for improvement that stands out to me is that the assignment rubrics are often very generic, clearly not specialized for each assignment. This, combined with sometimes vague assignment instructions can lead to some frustration about what exactly an assignment requires. However, the responsiveness of instructors makes up for this. The self-paced courses are especially excellent when trying to fit further education into an already busy schedule. I don’t hesitate to recommend USD as a great place to go for education courses.

Classroom courses are offered in a traditional classroom where you can connect with your instructor and classmates in a live setting. This learning environment facilitates a communication on a given subject in real time, enables immediate feedback, and fosters interaction with the instructor and likeminded classmates. To see if a course is being offered in a location near you please click on the Find a Course on the website’s top navigation bar: then Filter by SUBJECT AREA/PROGRAM and LOCATION. Classroom courses have a scheduled start and end date in which you are expected to attend the courses at that location for all course sessions.

Students living in remote locations
Students who cannot easily attend courses due to injury or illness
Students who are self-motivated and conscientious
