This course is designed to provide a strong foundation in Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Indigenous ways of knowing. It serves as an introduction, aiming to spark interest in continued learning about how we can more intentionally and respectfully integrate traditional Indigenous knowledge into environmental and outdoor education programs.

  • Identify opportunities and challenges in using Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) to address environmental issues
  • Develop personal guidelines for integrating TEK principles into your teaching in ways that honor, acknowledge, and care for TEK and Indigenous peoples
  • Compare and contrast Traditional Ecological Knowledge and ways of knowing with Western science and ways of knowing
  • Support students in developing relationships with the world around them
  • Teach a lesson or unit that integrates TEK knowledge and/or practices with your students
