To be a counselor in an international school requires culturally focused skills and sensitivities. This course explores the skills and resources necessary to be a culturally competent counselor and provides a practical approach to running effective School Counseling programming for international school communities. Through case presentations, simulations, and other active participation strategies, participants will explore and practice skills related to:

Course Format: Online Fixed-Date (fully online).
Refund Policy: To receive a refund, students need to drop the course at pce.sandiego.edu through their student account portal before midnight (11:59PT) on the third day of the course. The refund of the course fee will be returned less a processing fee of 10% of the course tuition. No refunds will be issued after this deadline.

Course Materials: All students will be supplied with access to materials via Google Drive. The Google Drive contains additional required reading materials which will be updated often. The instructor will give a week's notice before covering them in class. The following list of 'recommended' texts are provided to assist students in building a professional library, but may not be explicitly covered in class.

Course Dates: Friday, September 6 – Friday, November 29, 2024, synchronous bi-weekly meetings on Fridays with asynchronous assignments. Meeting times are from 6:00am – 8:30am PT, 48 hours prior to your first course meeting the instructor will reach out with an introduction email.
