The English Language Academy’s New Years Resolutions

The New Year Means New Resolutions

The start of the new year is often a time for reflection and change. As we look back upon the previous year often, there are habits, actions, and attitudes that we wish to correct or build upon. The beauty of a new year is that it can be viewed as a new beginning. A fresh start. Most of all, it is an opportunity to improve upon ourselves and set goals to become the best individual we can be.

The English Language Academy, as a group of individuals, is no different than anyone else. Each of us on the team has areas that can be improved upon and habits we can break. This year we sat down a discussed our New Years’ resolution as a team and the ways that we can support each other in maintaining them. In the spirit of the new year, we would like to share our resolutions with you, along with tips and tricks on how to help you come up with yours and achieve them.

Our Team’s Resolutions

Marcela Semancik-

“In such a fast-paced, busy world, I feel there is the need to make more effort to be with those we cherish most. Therefore, in 2020 I hope to spend more time with my family and friends.”

Terri Anderson-

“I want to use mornings before work to exercise in some manner, at least four days a week. Similarly, I want to practice yoga and meditation to help maintain peace and calm as my daughter plans her wedding.”

Marijana Vidojevic-

“I want to maintain my healthy lifestyle and encourage others who may be trying to switch to a healthier life. Likewise, set a goal to start an activity which involves a sport like hiking or biking.”

Francine Chemnick-

“I typically don’t make resolutions, but reflecting on 2019, I feel it’s important for me to make a concerted effort to be kinder, more patient, and keep a hopeful outlook so that I may offer a positive contribution to the world.”

Check back in July to see how well we did with keeping our resolutions!

Three Tips and Tricks to Maintain Your Resolutions

  1. Ease into it
    1. One of the most common mistakes made with new years resolutions is jumping right in. Often this results in one month of success and then a loss of motivation. Cold turkey, while sometimes successful, can lead to failure. So start small! Ease into your resolutions so you don’t burnout!
  2. Be Realistic with Your Goals
    1.  The world does not change overnight, and neither will your life! Setting goals to get in shape within a month or become an expert in a new activity in a week can lead to disappointment when these goals can’t be met. Instead, set attainable goals! As you reach each goal, you can set a new one and not have to worry about losing motivation along the way.
  3. Have a Support System
    1. Keeping your resolutions going is no easy task. When it becomes hard to maintain, the desire to break them grows stronger. That is why it is essential to make sure you have a strong support system! This support system can be your family, a friend, or even a coworker that can keep you motivated and focused!
