Course Description

It’s Time To Get Hands On With Your Events; Learn the Basics!

This course will provide students with the skills needed to successfully implement event coordination and production - from the initial goals and objectives through all phases of event management, including research, design, pre-event, on-site production, show management, and post-event evaluation. Students will gain knowledge of all elements involved and be given tools and resources to help them become efficient and resourceful event planners and producers, regardless of the size and scope of the event.

Learner Outcomes

  • Perform all phases of event coordination
  • Identify basic needs and necessary inclusions in proposals and contracts, including costing, insurance, and liability
  • Implement basic marketing concepts to identify a target audience and promote an event
  • Negotiating techniques and ways to increase efficiency and profitability
  • Create manual and conduct briefings for staff and volunteers
  • Design an organizational chart based on job descriptions and streamlining communication for the entire event team (staff, volunteers, vendors)
  • Conduct site inspections, including RFPs, negotiations, and considerations
  • Recognize and determine solutions for potential conflicts and challenges that may arise before, during and after an event
  • Determine all elements of a production schedule and on-site production, including show flow and rehearsals

Course Details

Number of Units: 2.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours

Who Should Attend: Whether you are an administrative assistant, entrepreneur, manager, or current event professional at an entry level position, who is interested in becoming responsible for coordinating small to large-scale events including meetings, fundraisers, conferences, corporate programs, weddings, reunions, and sporting events, this course is for you!

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course; however, BUS-X836E: Event Overview and Planning is strongly recommended.
