Fulfill Your Medical Terminology Course Requirement

Designed to help students learn and comprehend medical terminology, this course is based on the body systems method to satisfy the assigned prerequisite for health care programs including Health Care Informatics certificate, pre-nursing, and other pre-health professional programs.  The online self-paced format includes interactive lectures, practice activities, and quizzes and assignments. Topics covered include body systems, organs, human disease, medical terms, word parts, abbreviations, the health professions, cancer medicine, and more.

  • Recognize medical, diagnostic, and laboratory abbreviations
  • Identify the parts of a cell and the specialized functions of tissue
  • Identify the body systems and describe their functions and how they work together
  • Define the anatomic positions of the body and directional terms used to indicate them
  • List the body cavities and the organs contained within them
  • Identify nine body regions and use appropriate medical terms when describing locations of various parts of the body

Number of Units: 2.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours

Who Should Attend: Students who require a medical terminology course as a program prerequisite for programs such as pre-nursing, pre-medical (and other pre-health professional tracks).  This course also meets the medical terminology requirement for USD’s Health Care Informatics program (Certificate and Master's program).
