Learn to Use These Free Tools to Create and Share Information

Technology is playing a major role in the world of education, now so more than ever. One of the most widely used platforms is the Google Education Suite, or G Suite, that offers free, cloud-based resources for collaboration and creativity. Whether you’re an online teacher or are working in-person, being able to effectively utilize Google education tools can make all the difference for the success of you and your students.

In this course, Google Tools for Collaborative Teaching, you will get an introduction to the most popular Google education tools, while designing lessons and units for students aligned with Common Core State Standards and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Technology Standards.

This course can be taken individually and is part of the Learning and Teaching in a K-12 Digital Classroom Series and the Google for Teachers Series.

Course Details

  • Course Format: Online self-paced
  • Number of Units: 3.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours
  • Course Materials: Recommended text (Not Required), Google Apps Meets Common Core by Michael Graham, available at Amazon.com or your local bookstore. This text would be helpful to those who have not used Google previously.
  • Technical Requirements: All online courses require access to high-speed Internet, the Blackboard e-learning platform and the recommended supporting software. Further Technical Requirements are explained on our website.

Course Requirements/Prerequisites

For those with little to no experience with Google Tools, you may benefit from taking EDU-X718P Learning Readiness with Basic Google Tools which is valuable for both remote teaching and face-to-face teaching, prior to this course.

But the recent move toward online education in public and private schools makes online teaching skills and experience — especially the widely used Google toolset — more important than ever. Our instructors hold advanced degrees and are experienced Google Tools practitioners and subject matter experts.

Tiffani Brown, M.A. in Teaching and M.A. in English Literature and Film Studies, is an educator with over fifteen years of experience in the public school system. Tiffani is the Director of Instructional Technology in the Grossmont Union High School District. She has also served as a Vice Principal in the Santee School District. Prior to this role, Ms. Brown served as a Curriculum Resource Teacher on Special Assignment in the Santee School District where she focused on the creation and implementation of rigorous, innovative curriculum as well as the implementation of Santee’s first 1:1 iPad program. Additionally, Tiffani is a Google Apps for Education Authorized Educator and Certified Trainer, and the Vice President of San Diego CUE. Areas of passion and expertise include Personalized Learning, Student Choice, and Educational Technology.

I’ve used Google before but am not sure if I am using it efficiently and purposefully as an asset to my teaching and classroom management?

We highly recommend that you enhance your Google “Toolbox” by beginning with either this course, or EDU-X718P Remote Learning Readiness with Basic Google Tools.  You will come away with skills that you can immediately implement in your teaching.

My school went back to face-to-face learning, will I still benefit from this course?

Yes! Using the G Suite of education tools will enhance your teaching whether you are back in the classroom or continuing to teach remotely, allowing you to pivot to and from the classroom.

I am unsure about taking an online self-paced course when learning new technology.

The USD instructor who teaches this course is accustomed to teaching students of various levels. She is available to assist throughout the course and will help you through the learning process.
