Eligibility for Participation and Stipend

California public school K–5 educators who participate in professional learning outside of their regular work hours are eligible to take part in the Summer of CS and receive a stipend.

Please note: Due to funding restrictions under the Educator Workforce Investment Grant (EWIG) in Computer Science, only educators from California public K–12 schools are eligible.

As a result, the following groups are not eligible for participation or stipends:

  • Private and independent school educators
  • Expanded learning educators
  • Pre-service teachers
  • Substitute teachers

These eligibility guidelines align with Assembly Bill 185, which prioritizes professional learning opportunities for teachers and paraprofessionals in California’s public schools.

Prerequisites: No prior knowledge of computer science is required to participate.
