Course Description

Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only

Participants in this course will receive training and coaching in unit planning and collaboratively plan math unit plans for the 2023 school year. Participants will increase their depth of knowledge in the areas of; unit lesson planning, using backwards design, MTPs and planning for: student use of technology, student use of goals and progress monitoring, and student choice during math stations. Participants will have multiple opportunities for deep learning of rich content through engagement in relevant and meaningful activities that demonstrate application, continuous professional discussions, and the creation of products through systematic action plans. Professional learning will involve face to face session (large group and small group) and coaching sessions (team and/or individual). Participants will track their training and planning time, Participants will also reflect on the success of their lessons.

Number of Units: 1.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours

Who Should Attend: This course provides continuing education for Grade 2, 4, 5 Classroom Teachers; LIMM Teachers.

  • Gain a working knowledge of unit planning
  • Plan a unit without support by the end of the course
  • Collaboratively plan 3 units during quarterly session and 2 units outside of the sessions guided by tools and a math unit planning template to prepare for the upcoming math units of instruction
  • Engage in sessions to deepen their understanding of the unit planning process, MTPs, student use of goal setting, progress, monitoring and technology, and student choice during math stations
  • Reflect upon their learning and professionally respond to questions
