End Human Trafficking: Recognize the Signs from the Healthcare Frontline

Human trafficking is a modern form of slavery involving the use of force, fraud, or coercion to induce an individual to perform labor or commercial sex acts. Healthcare workers are on the frontline of recognizing and caring for trafficked persons.

Studies show that between 68% to 88% of trafficked persons encounter a healthcare professional while being trafficked, with around 56% of these individuals being seen in an emergency department. Yet despite the extent of the problem, less than half (42%) of healthcare providers and emergency personnel have received training on human trafficking.

This course educates medical personnel and students about the phenomenon of human and sex trafficking, trains them on how to recognize red flags and health problems associated with trafficking, and offers instruction on how to provide safe and appropriate health care for trafficked persons.
