Course Description

In this course/workshop you will learn about the field of children's user research (with a focus on technology and media) and how you can leverage your background and experience working with children to a new space and industry. Students will gain a deeper understanding of children’s user research implementation and how to best run research. Real world case studies and examples from the children’s technology and media space will be shared.
Students will learn:
- Implementation strategies
- How to best approach running research with diverse types of children
- Strategies for successful research facilitation
This workshop is great for people with experience working with children who are looking for a career change or just wanting to learn a new skill-set to enhance their current practice. Recommend completing the Introductory to Children’s User Research, Technology & Media AND Children’s User Research Design & Methods, Technology & Media prior to this course.
Course Details
Number of Units: 1.0 graduate level extension credit(s) in semester hours
Who Should Attend: This course provides continuing education for professionals who work with children and are looking for a different career avenue Teachers, Speech Therapists, Play Therapists, Child Life Specialists, Psychologists, Designers User Research professionals that want to learn more about facilitating research with children, or Children’s product developers/curriculum designers.
Course Materials: Two texts,
- Exploring Key Issues in Early Childhood and Technology: Evolving Perspectives and Innovative Approaches by Chip Donohue available at Amazon.com or your local bookstore.
- User Research With Kids: How to Effectively Conduct Research with Participants Age 3-16 by Thomas Visby Snitker available at Amazon.com or your local bookstore.
Prerequisites:
Recommended - Some experience in Early Childhood Education or some experience working with children in some capacity.
