This comprehensive, hands-on course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to serve as an Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist in school-based settings. Whether you are new to assistive technology or seeking to expand your expertise, this program provides the essential tools and training to confidently support students with diverse needs.
Through eight live, online, synchronous sessions, participants will explore all aspects of assistive technology service delivery. You will learn how to conduct thorough AT assessments, deliver direct services to students, and write clear, legally defensible assessment reports. The course covers a wide range of AT tools that support reading, writing, math, and executive functioning, as well as strategies for assisting students with visual, hearing, cognitive, and mobility challenges. Instruction also includes training on iPad and Google accessibility features, and guidance on best practices for AT trials and implementation planning.
The legal foundations of assistive technology will be examined, including how to document AT in IEPs and effectively present findings and recommendations during IEP meetings.
As part of the course, you will complete a final project that includes conducting an AT assessment with a student, writing a formal report, and receiving individualized feedback during a one-on-one consultation with the instructor.
Upon successful completion of the course and final project, participants will receive a certificate of completion recognizing their training as an Assistive Technology Specialist, enabling them to apply AT practices confidently in school settings.
