Course Description

Credit Validation for Math Vision Project Participants Only

This training will strengthen your understanding of the Common Core Standards and provide you with pedagogical tools that you can use to implement mathematics instruction that promotes all of the Mathematical Practice Standards. As you engage with rich tasks that follow a progression of learning you will come to better understand the Comprehensive Mathematics Instruction Framework and how it facilitates mathematical work of many types within the secondary classroom. As you become familiar with MVP materials you will learn mathematics, you will learn Core Standards and you will learn pedagogical moves that will promote a depth of understanding for students. You will strengthen your understanding of what it means to “Teach Like an MVP.”

Presenter Information:

Come and hear from the Authors of the Mathematics Vision Project (MVP) materials. The author team has a wealth of experience in education and teacher training. With many years of professional development, curriculum development and classroom teaching the MVP team will share with you the many quality practices that promote a depth of understanding. The MVP team has authored and shared the MVP curriculum as a new and innovative open educational resource and is eager to share the framework on which the curriculum is built to better inform practitioners so that they can make quality instructional decisions and increase student learning. The MVP team is made up of classroom teachers, curriculum directors, math specialists and university professors.

Learner Outcomes

  • Teach with the Comprehensive Mathematics Instructional Framework and experience how it revolutionizes mathematics teaching and learning
  • Use the MVP lesson design to help students develop procedural fluency with conceptual understanding
  • Understand the sequence of MVP modules and topics and see how they capture the vision of the Common Core Standards for High School Mathematics
