This course explores the development of the United States from its colonial foundations to the modern era. Students will examine the nation’s political, social, economic, and cultural evolution—beginning with the establishment of the original colonies and continuing through independence, nation-building, westward expansion, the Civil War and Reconstruction, industrialization, global conflicts, and the ongoing struggle for civil rights.
The course also addresses key developments of the 20th and 21st centuries, including the Cold War, technological and economic transformations, and contemporary social and political movements.
