Course Description

Revise or Design New Curriculum with this Convenient Online Self-Paced Course

This course is intended for K-12 educators who would like to develop stimulating and impactful curriculum. Educators will work closely with an instructor in order to promote effective teaching for the current or upcoming school year. Students will use the feedback provided to them by the instructor in order to create goals for the course and ultimately an implementation plan for their new curriculum. Educators have the option to refresh existing lessons and curriculum or they can use this course to build brand new curriculum. Educators have the option to incorporate resources into their plan that will be impactful in the classroom, which may include how to transition to and from the remote learning environment. This course does not limit participants to a specific subject matter; students are free to choose the area of curriculum that they feel would benefit from a redesign. Participants can focus on the need for new resources, textbooks, lesson plans or modify their curriculum in order to align to new standards.

Number of Units: 3.0 graduate level extension credits in semester hours

Who Should Attend: This course provides continuing education for K-12 educators interested in planning customized curriculum and/or lesson plans.

Course Format: Online Self-Paced*, to be completed within the set dates:

  • Enrollment is available now through November 9, 2020
  • Course runs September 1 through December 18, 2020

*Online Self-Paced courses are a perfect blend of accessibility, convenience and flexibility for you to control your learning pace. Your instructor will provide feedback via written responses on your assignments and final project. Grades are based on assignments and completed projects. You have up to December 18. 2020 to complete and submit your course assignments. Transcript completion date, will reflect the date you submit your final project.

Courses offer a convenient, yet rigorous style of learning that allows you to structure your education to suit your schedule while keeping you on pace toward achieving your educational.

Online Self-Paced

Our online self-paced courses are similar to online fixed-date courses, but are designed to give you a six-month period from time of enrollment to complete all assignments. Like fixed-date courses, online self-paced courses are asynchronous, meaning that you can work on your assignments anytime; the difference being there are no assigned due dates in self-paced courses. Your instructor will provide feedback via written responses on your assignments and exams. Grades are based on completed projects, assignments and exams.

How is the self-paced course structured? Like fixed-date courses, online self-paced courses are asynchronous meaning that you can work on your assignments anytime; the difference being there are no assigned due dates in self-paced courses. The content is divided into three or seven learning modules. Each module will cover one or more topics. Within each of the learning modules, you can expect the following components:

  • Module introduction that outlines what you can expect to learn in the module.
  • Required readings (textbook, articles, journals, websites, etc.) and presentations (audio and/or video).
  • Assignments (which may include: written assignments, quizzes, blogs, etc.) based on the readings and presentations.
  • Module conclusion to review the topics and what you should have learned.
  • Typically, there is a final project, paper, or exam due in the last module that culminates all of the topics covered in each of the learning modules. You’ll find that the design of the learning modules has a rhythm to help you manage your time in the course.
