Credit Validation for DoDEA Participants Only 

Increasing Students' Thought Processes through Intentional Planning Using Perform/Present/Produce Standards and a Culturally Responsive Lens is a two-credit class for K-12 Fine Arts teachers designed to integrate Art, Drama, Humanities, and Music content and resources, Culturally Responsive Teaching competencies, and professional practice. Participants will explore (in DoDEA provided resources) and integrate (or create their own) lesson plans using the Perform/Present/Produce standards, with a culturally responsive lens. Teachers will participate in DoDEA Fine Arts assessments and share data. Educators will build job-alike communities to support their teaching practice in the Fine Arts classrooms, share best practices, and create a collaborative network with their peers.

What You Will Learn

  • Experience a variety of teaching strategies and methods meeting the DoDEA Fine Arts content standards, Culturally Responsive Teaching competencies, DoDEA Fine Arts Assessments, content lesson planning skills for grades K-12 to increase students’ thought processes.
  • Apply strategies to student learning
  • Receive 20 hours of explicit, on- site modeling in the classroom, 0.5 hours of individualized coaching, 4 hours of peer-to-peer collaboration, and 6 hours of participant choice curriculum resources training
  • Collaborate and build peer-to-peer support with opportunities for sharing challenges, concerns & successes of Fine Arts instruction, share best practices with the group, analyze and provide feedback for DoDEA Fine Arts Assessments, explore content specific curricular materials trainings, and create integrated lesson plans through a Culturally Responsive lens
