Through USD’s Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science in partnership with the Division of Professional and Continuing Education, we offer a Graduate Certificate and a Master’s of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Health Care Informatics which also prepares graduates to sit for national certification in Health Care Informatics. USD's Health Care Informatics program is entering its 3rd year with 10 students graduating with Masters degrees, and 22 current students who are pursuing Graduate Certificates or the Master's program options.
To fulfill the demand for more people with this skillset USD continues to grow the program by the addition of five new cutting-edge elective courses which include: Intro to Geohealth, which trains students to apply geographic information systems (GIS) software to health surveillance and research; Telehealth and Emerging Technologies; The only Health Care Six Sigma course in San Diego which trains students to improve productivity and efficiency in health care delivery; and the Clinical Documentation Specialist courses will train nurses who wish to purses employment in this new role and employment opportunity.
Many courses in the program may be taken as single courses through the Division of Professional and Continuing Education and may be applied at a later date to the graduate certificate or degree programs.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the job outlook for informatics nurse specialists; medical records and health information technicians is expected to increase 21% over the current decade.The national media salary range for a clinical informatics coordinator is $73,144 and $97,750 for a Health Information Services Director, according to Salary.com.
